20th Annual Kids' batizado integrado & Graduation

ACSF will host its 20h Annual Kids' Batizado Integrado & Graduation Ceremony Saturday, May 12th, 2012. Our youth instructors, Antonio Contreras (Instrutor Corrente), Elias D. Gonzalez (Graduado Papagaio), and Lisa Silva-Willoughby (Graduada Ciranda) are working together to unite all students to create this years' Kids' Batizado. Special guests include Professora Yara (ABADÁ DC), Instrutor Furacão (New York), Instrutora Sereia (ABADÁ Boston), Instrutora Vesper (ABADA SF), Graduada Sucurí (ABADA Chicago). More guests to be announced soon!

The Batizado (baptism) is a traditional capoeira graduation ceremony in which new students receive a capoeira nickname and will be officially welcomed into the capoeira community. For continuing students, the Batizado is a time of celebration and recognition of their growth in capoeira. In recognition of the children's accomplishments, new and continuing students will receive a cord that represents their level and growth in capoeira.

This event brings together all youth students from ABADÁ and from various schools and neighborhoods to experience Afro-Brazilian cultural traditions. It's an opportunity to celebrate each student's accomplishments, learn more about capoeira, and get to know the ABADÁ-Capoeira community.
