ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco Launches its New "Cause"In our January newsletter, we announced that ACSF had received a grant from The San Francisco Foundation which was enabling us to expand our social media presence. Our first step on this road was to join the fundraising and networking site, Causes.
Much like social networks sites such as Facebook, Causes provides nonprofit organizations the tools to bring people together for fundraising, advocacy work and awareness-raising. To view ACSF's Cause, the Ray Project, and our current fundraising endeavors, please visit our Cause page (or just click on the image above). Here you can join the cause, learn more about our current projects and invite others to join too. Joining causes is easy --especially if you already have a Facebook page-- and there is no obligation to donate just to show your support. Of course, if you want to donate to ACSF or the RAY project, you can do that here, too.
Announcing ABADÁ-Capoeira Chicago
This month sees the beginning of a brand new ABADA-Capoeira chapter in the United States: ABADA-Capoeira Chicago. Classes will be taught by ACSF alumnus, Graduada Sucurí (Rhodora Derpo). Students of ACSF of course know Graduada Sucurí for her un-wavering dedication to capoeira, her incredible skills in the roda and of course her humble and helpful approach to all her fellow capoeiristas. Graduada Sucurí has been (and continues to be) an inspiration to many of us here in San Francisco, and we are certain she will be to others in Chicago. Please join us in saying "Parabéns" to Graduada Sucurí. You can find ABADA-Capoeira Chicago on facebook here and stay up-to-date on their classes and growth.
FORRÓ DANCE CLASSES START FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3RDNever heard of Forró? It is a rhythmic partner dance which originated in Northern Brazil and has spread across the country, creating unique "dialects" like language in dance. Beginning on February 3rd, instructors Dijáz Irini and Marcela Breton will be teaching forró dance classes at ACSF on Fridays from 7:30-8:30pm (beginners) and 8:30-9:30pm (intermediate and open dancing). These classes are being offered independent of ACSF programming (so no class cards), but we hope many people take advantage of this opportunity to learn this fun and lively dance! For more information on the classes, check out their Facebook event and feel free to invite your friends!
PAST PERFORMANCES
The ACSF Performance troupe was out and about in January with educational performances in Santa Clara, San Jose, Atherton and our annual performance at the Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito. Here are some pictures from the Discovery Museum performance, which was led by Instructor Corrente. Check out our Flickr site for more photos from our recent performances. We have many exciting performances coming up this spring. Keep an eye on our Performances Calendar to find out when and where we will be next!
If you have not already, please, like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, review us on Yelp!
Special thanks to our funders!
