ACSF's Kid's Capoeira-thon/Gincana Was a Great Success!

On Saturday, April 27th, ACSF held its Kid's Capoeira-thon/Gincana. For almost two hours 25 kids ages 5-12 did as many paradas, aús, pontes and jogos as they could, playing hard and raising donations for our Batizado Graduation Ceremony and Youth Performance on May 19th. At the end of the day, ACSF's youth students had done 740 paradas, 615 aús, 573 pontes and played more than 67 jogos!

This was ACSF's second Capoeira-thon/Gincana, after the huge success of our first one last September.

Donations will be collected over the next 10 days. All donations are due by May 10th.

Thank you to all of our young capoeiristas, to our volunteers and of course to our donors. This event is only possible because of all of you.

Muito obrigada!

ABADÁ-Capoeira's 2013 Jogos Mundiais in Rio de Janeiro

Jogos Mundiais in Rio de Janeiro

In August, ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco will be joining thousands of capoeiristas from ABADÁ-Capoeira schools from around the world in traveling to Rio de Janeiro Brazil to partake in the 2013 Jogos Mundiais. This year's events, which coincide with the 25th Anniversary of the foundation of ABADÁ-Capoeira by Mestre Camisa, promise to be bigger than ever: beginning with workshops with capoeira Mestres and Mestrandos and lectures from Mestre Camisa himself at his CEMB "Centro Educacional Mestre Bimba" August 19-21st, and concluding in Rio de Janeiro from August 22nd-25th with the international capoeira competition and Mestre Camisa's Batizado, featuring capoeira students from beginners all the way up to the recognition of five new Mestrandos and three new Mestres, including our own Mestranda Márcia Cigarra.

This is an historic year and every student of ABADÁ-Capoeira is encouraged to attend. If you are interested in traveling to Brazil for the Jogos Mundiais this year, please contract Mestranda Márcia so that she can assist you in making the most of your trip.

More information will soon be posted on the Official ABADÁ-Capoeira International website: http://abadacapoeira.com.br/blog

Upcoming Performance: Carnaval in San Francisco

ACSF in Carnaval in 2011

It's almost time for Carnaval in San Francisco, which will be held on Sunday, May 26. This annual event and parade is part of the rich cultural history of San Francisco and ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco is proud to a part of it again this year, joining Tania Santiago and her Afro-Brazilian dance group,
Águas.

All ABADÁ-Capoeira students-- youth and adult-- come to rehearsals and you are welcome to join us in the parade. For more information, contact Mestranda Márcia at ACSF or e-mail Erica at info@abada.org. More information on Carnaval can be found on the official Carnaval website.

Grão Mestre Camisa Roxa

Rest in Peace Grão Mestre Camisa Roxa

On April 18th, the capoeira world was saddened by the unexpected passing of Grão Mestre Camisa Roxa Edvaldo Carneiro e Silva, a first-generation Formado of Mestre Bimba and the older brother of Mestre Camisa José Tadeu Carneiro Cardoso, the founder of ABADÁ-Capoeira. Edvaldo Carneiro "Grão Mestre Camisa Roxa" will be missed, but his influences will live on.
