Frequently Asked Questions
Can I start at any time?
Yes, new students can start at any time. There is no need to
pre-register, and there is no experience necessary. Whether you are in
excellent physical condition, or looking to improve your fitness level,
capoeira is a challenging cardio and strength training workout. On your
first day, please arrive at least 10 minutes before class time to fill out a release form. Doors close ten minutes after class start time.
Which class is best to start in?
New
students should start in one of the BASICS classes, which are held
every Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm. The first Tuesday BASICS class of
each month is Capoeira Fundamentals, an extra-basic class that is ideal for new students who want a slower-paced introduction to capoeira.
Students
with prior experience in capoeira are always welcome, but must start in
a BASICS or ALL LEVELS class, regardless of their level. This allows
ACSF to introduce its own style and technique, which is distinct from
other schools. Participation in advanced classes is by instructor
invitation only.
What can I expect?
Be
prepared to work out! Capoeira is a very physical activity. You should
make time to stretch before and after each class. The normal class
structure starts with stretching, leads into training according to
level, and ends with a Roda.
Can I observe class?
Quiet observers are welcome.
What do I need to bring?
Since we play capoeira in bare feet, we suggest using sports tape to
prevent blisters. Filtered water is available for students who bring a
water bottle. If you prefer, you may purchase both bottled water and
sports tape here.
What should I wear?
Students should wear clothes to work out in, ideally in the color
white. Workout pants as apposed to shorts are best. Eventually, you
will need to wear an ABADÁ-Capoeira uniform.
How much do uniforms cost & where can I get one?
The Adult/Teen uniform is $75.00, and children’s uniforms are $55.00.
Uniforms include ABADÁ pants, a t-shirt, and a natural cord. Uniforms
may be purchased at the sign-in desk.
