Hello Capoeiristas, Friends, and Community,
We’re still buzzing from the excitement of the Carnaval San Francisco Grand Parade on May 25th! A big thank you to everyone who helped make our contingent possible. Parents, staff, students, friends, family, and supporters: your energy truly lights up those around you.
Each year, ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco invites our community to participate in this fun, family-friendly, and unifying event. People take on various roles, from performers and contingent monitors to banner bearers and water attendants. Every single person contributes to our success—together.

For decades, Carnaval San Francisco has provided an opportunity for diverse cultures to come together in one spirit and share their creative expressions. This year’s parade was particularly meaningful for us for two reasons.
The 2025 celebration theme was “Afro Mundo: African Diaspora in the Americas,” which made it even more important for us to represent capoeira and celebrate Africa’s profound influence on cultures worldwide.
We also acknowledge that our school—a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to uplifting marginalized communities—faces challenges due to federal budget cuts and broader attacks on public initiatives.
Participating in the streets alongside thousands of others who are celebrating cultural diversity and unity serves as a powerful statement of protest. It is a form of resistance against oppression and a way to stand in solidarity with community members who are experiencing extreme hardship. We will continue to embrace capoeira as a means of resistance and a tool for building community resilience.
Want to join us in building stronger, healthier and happier communities through capoeira arts? Check out our summer programming. We have opportunities for everyone, including youth summer camp, daily capoeira and fitness classes for all skill levels, a group trip to Brazil, plus Saturday Special sessions in music, floreios, maculelê, and more!
Warmly,
Mestra Márcia Cigarra & Professora Sereia
