33rd Annual Batizado & Graduation Ceremony Marks Major Milestone
Hello Capoeiristas and Community Members,
Our 2025 workshops, batizado, and graduation ceremony have concluded! We celebrated our founding director, Mestra Márcia Cigarra, on her 33rd year leading ABADÁ-Capoeira SF and her 60th birthday. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the more than 100 friends, family, students, former students, and community members who attended Mestra’s birthday celebration.

We are especially thankful to our Guest of Honor, Mestre Morcego, who traveled all the way from Brazil to lead the week’s events. We would also like to acknowledge our special guests: Mestra Edna, Mestrando/a Gigi, Yara, and Côco, along with Professor Ferrugem, for sharing their energy, talent, and experience with us. Having so many high-level practitioners from our school present is a testament to Mestra Márcia Cigarra’s vision and the strength of our community.
Congratulations to Professor Soldadinho on his new title and brown cord, and to him and Instrutora Toninha for graduating another cohort of capoeira kids!
Additionally, thank you to everyone who volunteered. It truly takes a village to put on a large cultural festival like this past week’s event.
A big congratulations to all the students who participated! As Mestra Márcia Cigarra remarked during this special event: “It was an unlimited exchange of experiences and a great recognition of our diverse journeys, united by a common denominator: dedication and perseverance. Everyone can achieve their goals. Be yourself without comparing yourself to anyone.”
We are already looking forward to the 2026 batizado!
