ACSF IN THE COMMUNITY

acsf-community

WE ARE HAPPY TO REPORT SCHOOL- BASED PROGRAMS ARE PICKING UP!

Pre-COVID, ACSF artists annually brought Afro-Brazilian cultural arts into more than 30 schools serving more than 6,000 youth. ACSF’s team of teaching artists maintained a busy schedule, averaging 15 weekly classes at 10 or more schools, and bi-monthly assembly performances across the Bay Area.

COVID closures during the past two years caused many schools to stop arts education programs. Slowly, schools are reaching out again and requesting residencies and performances.

The uptick in school-based programs is an important step in rebuilding ACSF’s programming, and importantly, helping heal the community and its youth.

The pandemic and related economic recession have led to major health and economic impacts in San Francisco and Statewide, with low-income communities of color disproportionately affected.

ACSF’s programs address the declining physical and mental health of youth in the community through comprehensive, fun, accessible programs!
