A LETTER FROM ACSF’S EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

It is officially the summer season, and as we celebrate progress demonstrated through PRIDE month and the Juneteenth holiday, we also feel deep sadness watching this country take huge strides backwards. With gun violence; the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Constitutional right to abortion and bodily autonomy; the passive approach to implementing effective gun laws; and the unrelenting and increasing anti-LGBTQ bills and anti-trans rhetoric from lawmakers, it is difficult not to loose sight of the path towards further progress.

At ACSF we pledge to continue to provide a safe, welcoming environment for all people. To hold space for those in our community adversely affected by pervasive social, racial, and economic inequalities and the negative physical and mental health impacts of the pandemic.
For 30 years, ACSF has been a trusted communal space. Many in the community turn to ACSF for critical social connection, a safe space to learn, celebrate, express oneself, and heal in an inclusive and nurturing environment.

The existence of Capoeira is a living example of the power of the human spirit to overcome hardship, injustice, and continuous oppression. Capoeira has served as a tool to unite diverse populations and harness their collective desire for freedom and justice. At ACSF, Capoeira is a form of peaceful resistance, conflict resolution, and a spirited fight for justice and equality.

So please join us and consider spreading the word about ACSF’s FREE classes for children and teens so more youth can grow and celebrate in a nurturing, loving environment grounded in values of respect, freedom, integrity, and compassionate leadership.

Youth or adult, participant or audience member, we invite you to join us in making this world a better place through participation in cultural arts.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Walsh, Executive Director
