Dear Community,

Spring is here, and we feel that shift — the energy to begin again, to move more, to try something new. This is one of our favorite times of year to train, reconnect, and welcome new faces into our programs.

This first week of April, we’re celebrating the success of our Spring Break Capoeira Day Camp, which has brought 15 youth into capoeira! We’re so grateful to our team of artists, including Mestrando Jabuti, Professora Iguana, Professor Soldadinho, Instrutor Papagaio, and Instrutora Toninha, for leading the week with such dedication.

This season also marks the close of our recent fund drive, and we are thrilled to share that we raised $33,890 — thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors. These funds will directly support our hardworking team.

As we move further into 2026, we’re asking for your help with outreach. Did you know that teenage youth can take our classes for free, and children ages 5–12 are eligible for discounted classes? We’d love your help spreading the word about these offerings and our adult capoeira programming, led by our very own world-renowned Mestra Márcia Cigarra. New students are welcome to try our Fundamentals Capoeira class for free on the first Tuesday of every month. Read more about this offer below.

To inspire everyone to train this spring, we’re offering a special promotion: all single classes and class card packages are 50% off throughout April — for both kids and adults. All purchases must be made at the front desk. Don’t miss this chance to save and train more.

We’ve also been so happy to watch our Oakland, CA community continue to grow. At ABADÁ-Capoeira Oakland, classes are going strong on Mondays, led by Professoras Sucurí and Vésper alongside Instrutora Tatu. These leaders are building something truly vibrant across the bridge.

This season also brings movement on a global scale. Mestra Márcia will be traveling to teach and represent the international ABADÁ community in the months ahead — from Lisbon to Paraná, from Bogotá to Belgium, to Jacobina, Bahia Brazil, and across the border in Puebla, Mexico. Her presence continues to inspire capoeiristas everywhere, and we carry that energy into our own training here at home.

As the weather warms, there’s no better time to step into the roda. We look forward to training with you.

Warmly,

Mestra Márcia Cigarra & Professora Sereia
