Recently Mestre Camisa, the founder and president of ABADÁ-Capoeira announced the next Mestres; Mestranda/os; Professores/as; and Instrutores/as of ABADÁ-Capoeira.
Typically, all students from around the globe receiving levels Instrutores/as (purple cord) and higher would received their cord and title as part of Mestre Camisa’s batizado graduation ceremony, which would take place at the International Capoeira Festival & World Games/Jogos Mundiais in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. However, due to the global pandemic the event will not take place in its traditional fashion. Instead there will be smaller cord ceremonies each weekend in August at locations around the world, culminating with the online Jogos Mundiais World Games and the Formatura of new Mestres in Rio.
ACSF will serve as the North American site for students from North American regions receiving cords. Those unable to travel to San Francisco at this time may receive their cord at Mestra Márcia’s Batizado this coming December, or any ABADÁ event with the presence of a Mestre/a or Mestrando/a. Amongst those receiving new titles are several of Mestra Márcia’s students, plus students of other Mestres living in areas of North America.
It is important to note that to achieve these high levels is not easy. It takes years of dedicated pursuit. The achievement is a high honor and comes with the responsibility to carry the cultural art forward with integrity and authenticity. It is from this pool of next-generation artists that comes the next Mestres/as of ABADÁ-Capoeira.
Due to COVID the event will be closed to the public, but will be live-streamed.
