Honoring Growth in Our Capoeira Community

ABADÁ-Capoeira Marin

Dear Community,

This month, we reflect on a powerful truth: when we plant seeds with intention, nourish them with care, and trust in their growth, they blossom—often beyond what we imagined, even in difficult conditions. We saw this beautifully embodied last month at ABADÁ-Capoeira Marin’s 10-year anniversary batizado and graduation ceremony.

Ten years ago, a small class led by ACSF student Instrutora Ciranda has blossomed into a vibrant, intergenerational community. The rodas at ABADÁ-Capoeira Marin are lively and well-attended, with strong energy and a deep commitment to the values of capoeira: discipline, joy, resistance, and connection.

What we celebrated in Marin isn’t just an anniversary—it’s the result of years of consistent effort, belief, and love. It’s a reminder to all of us that the work we do today, the classes we teach, the connections we foster, the youth we mentor, the songs we learn, and the movements we repeat again and again—these are all seeds. They may not bear fruit immediately, and their growth may seem thwarted by various forces, but with time and persistence, they do.

Let Marin’s journey inspire us to keep nurturing our own roots here in San Francisco. Whether you’ve been with ABADÁ-Capoeira for years or just stepped into your first class, your presence matters. You are part of something growing, and we hope the programs we’ve highlighted below can help you with that growth.

Warmly,

Mestra Márcia Cigarra & Professora Sereia
