Parabéns to Jogos Competitors and Newly Graduated Capoeiristas!

L to R: Instrutora Toninha, Professora Sereia, Mestra Márcia Cigarra and Professor Ferrugem at the 2025 ABADÁ-Capoeira Jogos Mundiais

Many of members of the ACSF team competed at the Jogos Mundiais and some were promoted to new cord levels in Brazil. The ability to compete, and to be a part of the Batizado graduation ceremony for high-level cord promotions, represent decades of hard work, not only from the individual practitioners, but from their teachers, Mestre Camisa, and everyone who has helped build the ABADÁ lineage.

This year, the ABADA-Capoeira SF community had a record number of cord promotions, some of which reflect a new track in the ABADÁ graduation system called “Baobá.” This track, with new cord colors, recognizes the progress of the capoeiristas who don’t want to make capoeira their primary profession but who remain active in the art.

Congratulations to:

  • Mestrando Jabuti, our artist-in-residence and student of Mestre Cobra, on receiving his Mestrando title and red cord. Jabuti was one of fourteen to receive this prestigious title and cord level this year. We are so grateful to have him as part of our staff and community.
  • Professora Sereia, our executive director; student of Mestra Márcia Cigarra on receiving her brown-red cord. She is the first American to ever reach the level of brown/red, and one of only two females in ABADÁ-Capoeira outside of Brazil.
