As summer camp concludes and youth classes for the school year begin, we want to express our immense gratitude to our youth instructors for their time, dedication, and care in guiding the kids. This month, we would like to introduce you to Instructor Soldadinho.
Known for his kindness and energetic leadership, he is one of Mestra Márcia Cigarra’s most active and respected students. Born in Lagos de Moreno, Mexico, he started training in martial arts in 2006 with taekwondo, and then transitioned to capoeira. Two years later, he moved to the United States and became Mestra Cigarra’s student in 2009. Since then, he has trained with Mestre Camisa, Mestre Cobra, Mestre Morcego, and other top-ranking ABADÁ teachers. In 2021, he received h is purple/brown (corda roxa/marrom) instructor-level cord.
“When I was a child,” he shares, “I didn’t have many opportunities. When I arrived in the U.S. as a teenager, I found emotional, mental, and physical support at ABADÁ-SF. Now, I can give back by being part of this community.”
Soldadinho teaches capoeira to youth across the Bay Area at ABADÁ-Capoeira SF, in local private and public schools, and in partnership with Young Audiences of the Bay Area. If you see him at our studio, be sure to say hello!
