EVENT DESCRIPTION
ACSF is proud to present its 33rd Youth and Adult Batizado & Workshop festival! Join us as we celebrate another year of our community’s accomplishments. This multi-generational festival presents a unique opportunity for the ACSF community to come together with guest master Capoeiristas from ABADÁ, Brazil, and North America, offering intensive learning through workshops, lectures, ceremonies, and performances.
This year, we are also honoring Mestra Márcia Cigarra’s 60th Birthday on Friday, Oct 24 with a special celebration featuring food, drinks, and live music with Boca do Rio Band. Everyone is welcome to join us sharing memories and stories.
We are thrilled to welcome our lead guest artist, Mestre Morcego from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event will also feature guest artists from Brazil and the U.S., including: Mestra Edna Lima, Mestranda Gigi, Mestranda Yara, Mestrando Côco, Professor Ferrugem. These inspiring teachers will work with ACSF’s children, teens, and adults, as well as visiting students who travel to San Francisco to participate in this unforgettable event.
The event culminates with the Batizado Graduation Ceremony and Performance on Sunday, October 26. We can’t wait to celebrate with each of you!
Mestra Marcia Cigarra Turns 60!
Join us to celebrate a very special milestone: the 60th birthday of our president and artistic director, Márcia Treidler “Mestra Cigarra” on October 24 from 5:00 pm – 9:00pm. Mestra Márcia has been the visionary heart of ACSF since its founding, dedicating her life to teaching, performing, and building a thriving community around capoeira. Her wish is to celebrate her birthday with the community that is so special to her.
Come enjoy food and drinks, plus live music with Boca do Rio. Doors open at 5pm, dinner and storytelling at 6pm, music and dancing 7pm on. Entry to the event is $30-60 per person with youth 12 and under free. Participants can pay for their entry with the workshop + batizado registration or at the door the evening of the festivities.
