Code of Conduct Against Violence, Abuse, and Harassment, Summary
This is a summary of the ACSF Code of Conduct. All participating members, teachers, students, staff, volunteers, and visitors are required to read, understand, and adhere to the following at all times. No one is immune to this Code of Conduct. The full document will be available upon publishing.
I. Introduction
ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco (ACSF) is committed to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all. Violence, abuse, harassment, and misconduct of any kind are strictly prohibited. This Code of Conduct establishes the standards of behavior expected of all members, staff, teachers, students, volunteers, and visitors participating in ACSF programs, events, and activities. Adherence to these standards is essential to protecting the safety and well-being of our community.
III. Prohibited Conduct
The following behaviors are strictly prohibited within the ACSF community and at any ACSF-related activity, event, or facility:
Interpersonal Violence
Behavior used to gain power or control over another person, often exploiting unequal power dynamics.
Physical Misconduct
Intentional physical harm, inappropriate physical contact, withholding basic necessities, or providing alcohol or drugs to minors.
Sexual Misconduct
Sexual harassment; non-consensual sexual contact or intercourse; sexual exploitation; sexual bullying or hazing; exposing minors to sexual content.
Emotional Misconduct
Verbal abuse, threats, intimidation, physical aggression, stalking (including cyber-stalking), isolation, or deliberate exclusion.
Bullying and Hazing
Any aggressive or coercive behavior intended to harm, control, humiliate, or diminish another person emotionally, physically, or sexually.
Harassment and Discrimination
Unwanted physical, verbal, or implied conduct that causes discomfort, humiliation, fear, or mental distress, or creates a hostile or discriminatory environment.
Child Abuse
Physical or sexual abuse, neglect, trafficking, child pornography, or any form of harm to a minor.
Other Inappropriate Conduct
Intentional exposure of private areas, inappropriate or uninvited physical contact, or any conduct that violates ACSF community standards or applicable laws.
IV. Reporting Requirements
All members of the ACSF community share responsibility for maintaining a safe environment.
Mandatory Reporting:
All adults must immediately report suspected child abuse or sexual misconduct to ACSF senior staff and to law enforcement.
Other Misconduct:
Emotional, physical, or other forms of misconduct must be reported to ACSF senior staff, supervisors, or designated Safety Committee members.
Anonymous reports are accepted, though they may limit ACSF’s ability to fully investigate. ACSF will take all reasonable steps to protect the identity of reporting individuals.
V. Consequences for Violations
Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action based on the severity of the behavior, prior history, impact on the community, and risk to others.
Consequences may include, but are not limited to:
- Written warnings
- Probation (with or without mandatory counseling)
- Suspension from activities
- Permanent removal or ban from all ACSF facilities, programs, and events
- Notification of and cooperation with law enforcement when required
