This Oct. 22nd-26th, we invite you to join us for one of the most joyful moments of our year: our annual Youth & Adult Batizado, Master Workshops and Graduation Ceremony. This vibrant celebration welcomes new students into the world of capoeira and honors continuing students as they receive cords that mark their growth, skill, and dedication.
This year’s event is especially meaningful as we celebrate ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco’s 33rd anniversary of bringing capoeira’s art and culture to the Bay Area. For more than three decades, our school has been a hub for community, creativity, and resilience, where generations of capoeiristas have trained, connected, and grown together.
We’ll also honor a very special milestone: the 60th birthday of our president and artistic director, Márcia Treidler “Mestra Cigarra” on October 24. Mestra Márcia has been the visionary heart of ACSF since its founding, dedicating her life to teaching, performing, and building a thriving community around capoeira. To celebrate her birthday alongside our students’ achievements makes this year’s batizado truly special.
We are excited to announce Mestre Morcego will be our guest of honor and will lead the workshops. Confirmed guest thus far also include Mestranda Yara from Washington DC, Mestrando Côco from Florida, and Professor Ferrugem from Sao Paulo, Brazil, as well as instructors and students from throughout North America.
Throughout the week, visiting mestres and teachers will offer workshops, rodas, and performances, inspiring students of all levels. The energy builds to the graduation ceremony, where students of every age and background step into the roda to demonstrate their progress, play capoeira, and receive their new cords surrounded by friends, family, and our extended community.
