Teen & Adult Batizado Ceremony & Jogos Educacionais – Batizado: December 2 – 6, 2026

The batizado is one of capoeira’s most important traditions and a celebration that is open to the public. During the ceremony, beginners are formally welcomed into our school by playing their first jogo (game) with a master or high-level instructor, receiving their first cord, and earning their apelido (nickname). More experienced students may also receive a new cord during the troca de cordas (“changing of cords”), recognizing their continued growth and dedication. If you’ve just started training with us, we highly encourage you to register when registration opens. Here’s when it’s all happening:

Throughout the event, our community will come together for workshops, discussions, lectures, and celebrations led by distinguished guest artists. It’s a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of capoeira as a living Afro-Brazilian tradition, connect with our community, and learn from some of the art’s most accomplished practitioners. We’ll also offer workshops for kids.
New for 2026: We’re excited to introduce the Jogos Educacionais—an educational competition designed to help students (blue cords and higher) develop confidence, experience, and strategy in a supportive learning environment. Guided by internationally recognized masters and top competitors from around the world, participants will receive valuable feedback while gaining hands-on experience in a competition setting.
Whether you’re preparing for your first batizado or ready to take on the Jogos Educacionais, now is the time to start training. We can’t wait to share this exciting week of learning, competition, celebration, and community with you!
