It’s on! Registration for our batizado week opens October 10. Join us December 2-6, 2026 in San Francisco.
The batizado ceremony. During the Sunday event, which is open to the public, beginning capoeiristas are formally welcomed into our school. They play their first jogo (game) with a master or high-level instructor, receive their first cord, and earn their apelido (nickname). More experienced students may also receive a new cord during the troca de cordas (“changing of cords”), recognizing their continued growth and dedication.
A week of workshops and community. Events throughout the week include workshops, lectures, and other chances to train and connect with local students and with visiting guest artists from around the world. Our Guest of Honor Mestrando Douglão will lead workshops. Special guests Mestranda Yara, Mestrando Côco, and Professor Ferrugem will join us.
New this year: Jogos Educativos. We’re excited to introduce this educational competition created to help students (blue cords and higher) develop confidence, experience, and strategy in a supportive learning environment. Guided by internationally recognized artists and top competitors from around the world, participants will receive valuable feedback while gaining hands-on competition experience.
