December 2 – 6, 2026 | San Francisco

Batizado & Jogos Educativos 2026

Our biggest annual event is coming. Join us in San Francisco for a week of capoeira workshops, educational games, and our Batizado graduation ceremony.

About the event

The Batizado ceremony

The Sunday ceremony is open to the public, and will open with a performance featuring top level artists from around the world. During the ceremony, beginning capoeiristas are formally welcomed into our school: they play their first jogo (game) with a master or high-level instructor, receive their first cord, and earn their apelido (nickname). More experienced students may also receive a new cord during the troca de cordas (“changing of cords”), recognizing their continued growth and dedication.

New this year: Jogos Educativos

The Jogos Educativos is an educational competition that helps students (blue cords and higher) build confidence, experience, and strategy in a supportive learning environment. Guided by internationally recognized artists and top competitors from around the world, participants receive valuable feedback and hands-on competition experience.

Public entry: suggested donation of $10 at the door.

A week of workshops and community

Throughout the week, you can join workshops, lectures, and other chances to train and connect with local students and visiting guest artists from around the world. Guest of Honor Mestrando Douglão will lead workshops, joined by special guests Mestranda Yara from Washington DC, Mestrando Côco from Florida, and Professor Ferrugem from Brazil.

GUEST OF HONOR

Mestrando Douglão
(Douglas Ulrich de Oliveira)

Mestrando Douglão began his capoeira journey in Brazil at age nine. In 1999, he moved his practice to Guapimirim, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, where he has spent 27 years developing social projects and teaching children, youth, adults, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

As an athlete and competitor representing ABADÁ-Capoeira, he has won titles at every level, from the Jogos do Interior (regional games) to state, national, and world championships. He is the current champion in the Mestrandos category within ABADÁ-Capoeira, a distinction that reflects his technique and skill as a competitor. One of only a handful of Mestrandos worldwide, he continues to uphold the organization’s values and teachings under the supervision of ABADÁ-Capoeira’s founder, Mestre Camisa.

In 2015, he performed in San Francisco in ACSF’s “Spirit of Brazil” concert. We’re thrilled to have him back.
