Artistic Leadership

Márcia Treidler (“Mestra Cigarra”) Artistic Director & Choreographer
Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Mestra Cigarra is the founder and artistic director of ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco. She is one of the top seven capoeiristas among more than 50,000 ABADÁ-Capoeira members worldwide and the first female student of Mestre Camisa to earn the prestigious title of “Mestra.” A pioneer in a traditionally male-dominated art form, her trailblazing achievements have paved the way for future generations of women in Capoeira.

Jennifer Walsh (“Professora Sereia”) Co-Producer & Lead Company Performer
Jennifer Walsh is the highest-ranked non-Brazilian female capoeirista in the global ABADÁ-Capoeira community. She began her Capoeira journey in 1994 under the guidance of Mestra Márcia “Cigarra” in San Francisco. As Co-Founder and Executive Director of ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco, she has played a critical role in shaping the organization’s growth and mission, continuing to lead both on and off the stage.
