About: The Spirit of Brazil 2012 was a vibrant cultural event presented by ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco (ACSF), held from October 18–21, 2012, at the ODC Theater in San Francisco. This performance, themed “Mar de Tradições” (“Sea of Traditions”), showcased the rich tapestry of Brazilian culture through capoeira, music, dance, and theater. Artistic Director Márcia Treidler, known in the capoeira community as Mestra Cigarra, curated a program that flowed seamlessly, aiming to immerse the audience in the dynamic energy of Brazil.
The event featured an impressive lineup of international artists, including capoeiristas, musicians, and dancers. Notable performers were Professores Mobília (Anderson Freire de Barros) and Goma (Ezequiel Alves dos Reis), both bringing their unique talents to the stage. Professora Yara (Yara Camargo Cordeiro) represented the strength of female capoeiristas. The festival also included performances by local Samba teacher Raffaella Falchi and the drum ensemble Quimbanda Grupo Carnavalesco, led by percussionist Gamo da Paz. Traditional Afro-Brazilian art forms like maculelê were also part of the program, enriching the cultural experience.
