Every year in October, we hold our Youth & Adult Batizado and Graduation Ceremony, which roughly coincides with Mestra’s birthday, making it all the more special. But this year’s celebration will be epic—she’s turning 60. And so, the week of Oct. 22nd-26th will represent not just a year of our community’s accomplishments, but 43 years of capoeira practice and 60 years of life for our president and artistic director. So mark your calendars and stay tuned for event details.
For those new to capoeira, the batizado is a traditional ceremony in which new students are initiated into the world of capoeira. New students receive a capoeira nickname and play with a master or instructor, symbolically welcoming them into the community. For continuing students, the batizado is a time of celebration and recognition of their growth in capoeira. Some new and continuing students receive a cord that represents their level. Master workshop info and more event details are in the works. If you’re a new student, we invite you to be part of this special event.
Our batizado week is the biggest event of the year, and you won’t want to miss it!
