Next month, a contingent of ACSF students led by Mestra Márcia Cigarra will be traveling to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the ACSF Brazil Study Trip, to participate in the international festival and competition hosted by ABADÁ-Capoeira President Founder, Mestre Camisa. During the trip, alongside ABADÁ-Capoeira students from over 25 countries around the world, ACSF students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops with Mestres and Mestrandos at CEMB (Centro Educacional Mestre Bimba), seminars, and the Jogos Mundiais international capoeira competition, as well as witness the formatura of new Mestrandos of ABADÁ-Capoeira.

Event Schedule:

August 19-23: Workshops, Seminars, Competitions, Batizado, and Graduations at CEMB (Centro Educacional Mestre Bimba)

August 24: In Rio de Janeiro: Jogos Mundiais Competition Finals; Formatura and Reconhecimento ceremonies of ABADÁ-Capoeira Mestrandos.

August 25: Aulão at Copacabana Beach. Over 5,000 capoeiristas from over 25 Countries will gather at Copacabana beach to take part in a Master class led by Mestre Camisa, as well as rodas and an awards ceremony for the competition finalists.

We are very excited to announce that Lucas Aurore “Gavião” and Felix Ortiz de Montellano “Pinguin”, both extremely dedicated ACSF teen students, will be traveling with the group to Brazil. This is only possible thanks to the ACSF Brazil Teens Fund Scholarship. Pinguin and Gavião earned points collected from the past 2 years of participating in ACSF programing. Their exceptional participation includes regular attendance in classes, participation in numerous performances including our Spirit of Brazil production, volunteering including being an assistant for the Youth program classes and Summer Camp, and more.

A well-deserved award for their dedication, we are very happy to grant both of them the 2019 travel scholarship for what will be an unforgettable trip. The ACSF Brazil Teens Scholarship is supported through proceeds from Sunday’s adult/teen Community Capoeira class— a program offered thanks to the volunteer commitment of ACSF instructors.
