Meet Batizado Guest of Honor Mestrando Douglão

Mestrando Douglão (Douglas Ulrich de Oliveira) began his journey in capoeira in Brazil at age nine. In 1999, he took his practice to the city of Guapimirim, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, where he’s spent 27 years developing social projects and teaching children, youth, adults, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

As an athlete and competitor representing ABADÁ-Capoeira, he has claimed titles at every level — from the Jogos do Interior (Regional Games) to state, national, and world championships. He currently holds the title of champion in the Mestrandos category within ABADÁ-Capoeira, a distinction that reflects his impeccable technique and skill as a competitor. One of only a handful of Mestrandos worldwide, he continues to uphold the organization’s values and teachings under the supervision of ABADÁ-Capoeira’s founder, Mestre Camisa.

In 2015, he brought his art to audiences in the United States, traveling to San Francisco to perform in ACSF’s “Spirit of Brazil” concert, and we’re thrilled to have him back.

Don’t miss capoeira workshops with Mestrando Douglão over this year’s teen/adult Batizado week.
