For more than 30 years, we’ve found ourselves thinking the same thing: this is the year we need our community’s support more than ever. One year it was a global pandemic. The next, city budget cuts. Then grants running out, changes in federal funding, a rent increase. Each year, the philanthropic landscape seems to get harder, and our financial situation more precarious.
But our work hasn’t gotten smaller.
Our reach keeps growing. ACSF brings the Afro-Brazilian art of capoeira to approximately 12,000 children and adults each year through classes, school residencies, community programs, and performances. We keep seeing the need grow. People throughout the Bay Area want more opportunities to learn, move, make music, build community, and connect with a living cultural tradition.
This work is expensive to sustain. Our operating costs are substantial, including maintaining a home for our community in San Francisco’s Mission District. Student tuition covers only a fraction of those costs, so we depend on grants, philanthropic support, and individual donors to make up the difference.
This year, we’re asking you to help us keep doing what we do. Your donation helps keep capoeira accessible, supports our teachers and teaching artists, sustains our youth and school programs, and keeps this Afro-Brazilian tradition thriving in the Bay Area. If ACSF has meant something to you, your family, or your community, please consider making a year-end gift.
What your gift makes possible. Consider giving an amount that is meaningful to you:
$14 covers one kids’ class
$140 sponsors one month of classes for a child
$1,400 covers fees for one child for one year
$14,000 covers rent for one month
ACSF is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization (EIN 94-3249282), and all donations are tax deductible.
